Energy efficient PC arrived

The Dell Studio Hybrid arrived today, a couple of days early - looks very nice. It's very compact (as can be seen in the picture below) and should reduce my power usage considerably. Perhaps not the best way of saving money, but does save electricity.

I've attached the machine to my Intellipanel plug. At first, it wouldn't turn on the device properly, but after a reset, it works fine. The intellipanel will turn on and off all of the peripheral with the computer. These are some Microsoft powered speakers (DSS-80 speakers), an LG LCD monitor, an iPaq docking station and a rarely used desk lamp (the lamp is only ever used when at the computer, so this just ensures it's off most of the time).

The estimate is that I'll save 150w for every hour the device is on. I may not be able to accurately measure that, but we'll see.

After plugging it in, I found that I no longer need to use the separate card reader, nor the powered 7 port USB device I had - minimal power savings for the latter, but it all adds up.
